Valerie Caruolo, Assoc. AIA, CPHC, LEED AP, BA is Co-chair of the AIA CAE Research Subcommittee and a Learning Space Designer and Research Lead at Hord Coplan Macht Architects. As co-author of AIA Upjohn funded primary research, The Impact of Biophilic Learning Spaces on Student Success, Valerie is passionate about designing learning spaces, experiences that enable humans to thrive and explores how access to restorative environments impacts the mental and physical health, wellbeing, and success of learners. An advocate for radical, multi-disciplinary collaboration with a focus on design implementation of evidence-based strategies, Valerie seeks to promote the translation of scientific findings into practice. As author of Creating Common Ground: Architecture for Tactical Learning and Creative Convergence, an inquiry into resource scarce and resource abundant environments that inspire innovation, Valerie explores infrastructure for learning and considers spatial strategies that stimulate a range of human experiences which cultivate creativity.
